I completed my MFA in painting at Indiana State University. I also attended Indiana University Bloomington's MFA program for their printmaking class. After receiving my BFA from the Herron School of Art, where I majored in painting and minored in drawing. I attended the Pont-Aven School of Art in Pont-Aven, France, as well as Hunan Normal University for Art in Changsha, China.
At the Herron School of art I taught figure drawing, and at the John Waldron Arts Center I taught oil painting. I was a drawing and painting instructor for two years at Indiana State University.
My vibrant floral and landscape paintings utilize thick layers of oil paint to create an impressionistic feel. These paintings have a transparent, illuminating effect through the use of exciting, thick textures. I focus on these textures using bold, richly colored paints. After underpainting with brushes, a palette knife is used to produce a broken-color effect. These 3D effects express my passion for nature's raw beauty. Through these colors and techniques I am able to convey the joyful, free spirit of nature.
