Who We Are

FAFO began in 1966 with a group of community members who wanted to bring art to Marion County. Since then, it has been putting on the annual Arts Festival and — since 1988 — the Symphony Under The Stars. FAFO's mission is to promote the Fine Arts and enhance art education within our community.

Are you passionate about the arts and ready to make a meaningful impact in our community? Fine Arts for Ocala is seeking new board members to help lead the way! We’re looking for detail-oriented, logistical leaders who can bring energy, organization, and creativity to the table—especially as we plan and execute our two signature events: the Ocala Arts Festival and Symphony Under the Stars. As a board member you’ll play a key role in shaping the direction of our nonprofit, supporting the arts in Ocala, and working alongside a dedicated team to bring vibrant, community-centered events to life. If you love the arts and have a knack for making things happen we’d love to hear from you!

Board Member Essentials:

• Attend a board orientation session with the President and Administrative Assistant.
• Regularly attend board meetings and important related meetings. Board meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month and start at 5:00pm with social time, the meeting starts at 5:30pm. In January there is a board retreat in place of a regular meeting. No meetings in July and December.
• Sit on at least one committee. Committees include: Symphony, Arts Festival, Finance,  Sponsorship, Scholarship, and Marketing. Must make a serious commitment to participate actively in committee work.
• Volunteer for and willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time.
• Stay  informed about committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
• Get to know other committee members and builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
• Is an active participant in the committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
• Participates in fund raising for the organization.
• Attend all events especially Symphony Under the Stars (Mother’s Day) and the Arts Festival (fourth weekend in October).
• Be informed about the organizations purpose, service, programs, and events. Follow board policies.
• Become a public advocate for FAFO.
• Assist in the recruitment of effective board members.
• Assist the board in carrying out its legal, fiduciary, oversight, and financial responsibilities.
• Make a personal financial contribution to the organization.
• Pay a new Board Member due of $75.00 – includes a Name Badge, then an annual Board Member due of $50.00 every year after.
